Well, I have natural red hair so I have a problem with dying it all one color for it to go with another. I'd love somewhat neon colors in it. Besides blonde. So any suggestions of what wouldn't look retarded with natural red? xD

DON'T strip your hair by yourself!!! try hot water first. use a volumizing or clarifying shampoo. you can also try to crush a tablet of vitamin c into shampoo and leave it on for about 5 min. when you color your hair with permanent color, it chemically changes the color of you natural hair. were you to try and strip the red out yourself, you could end up with a funny-looking spotted orange color

They have hair dye removal/fading things that you can buy at a drugstore or grocery store. It would be in the same section as the normal hair dyes are. I have used them before and they work wonderfully but they are kinda hard on your hair. Also, though they say "hair dye removal" they really only fade it it doesnt remove it compeltely. If you are only looking to fade it slightly than they have shampoos that are specialized to do just that. These are also sold at any drugstore and probably more selection at a beauty store or hair salon. Good luck!

Word of advice from a 90's grunge hair dyer (I have had every color of hair and combination of colors from Hot Topics). If you try to fade red to fast it will give your hair and orange tint. Your lucky that red is the fastest hair color to fade, so if you wash your hair everyday for a about a week it should be toned down.

A strong clarifying shampoo, wash it several times and leave it on each time, then leave a treatment conditioner on too. If you don't have any clarifying shampoo try washing-up liquid a couple of times - it sounds strange but the detergents are what you need to help fade to colour, again, put a treatment on afterwards if possible.

Dont worry... A couple months ago I had my hair dyed and it was so red that every time I caught my reflection I thought I was bleeding from my scalp. But in a few days it toned down and I ended up dying it that color for 3 months!

It should be a bit more subtle by tomorrow... But I've heard that lemon juice has lightening qualities... But for red hair... that might be a bad thing!

Try super-hot water... or hot extra virgin olive oil.

You dont really want to fade it too much as it will probably go a burnt orange colour or an even worse red. If you can, use a bit of washing up liquid in your shampoo and then go and buy a FLAT brown from somewhere. This means you want something with no tone in it to try and cover as much red as possible.You will probably still have some red shining through but it will look more of a nice deep red. Try not to put a lighter shade over it as this will do nothing, you need to get a darker one. You wont have to worry about your hair going green or anything as the red would have already prepigged it. Hope this helps x

The thing about red is, it fades. So, take a bit of laundry detergent or dish soap (something concentrated) and wash it a few times with that. Make sure you condition it as that soap will dry your hair out. After doing that for a few days, the purple will probably be almost if not completely gone. The color you are left with might be a bit dull, but it should get rid of the purple.

Do NOT bleach it! You will look like carrot top. If you want to use bleach - go to a salon and get highlights. That will make your hair look lighter over all if the stylist knows what they are doing.

Like Nea, I've had my hair pretty much every color imaginable. In your case it really depends on the kind of dye you used. If you used a permanent hair color, you won't be able to fade it easily by washing it with detergent, etc. Believe me I know, in college I dyed my hair black with permanent color and I did everything imaginable to lighten it, but in the end I had to bleach streaks into it and then dye it a lighter color to even it out. I ended up cutting it short a year ago to get rid of the residual black, which was STILL in my hair at the tips where it hadn't yet grown out.

If you used a semi-permanent (if you had it dyed in a salon this is most likely the case, but if you bought a box at a store I'm suspecting it's permanent but you never know) you'll be able to fade it somewhat with the methods listed. After that, dye over it with a lighter shade of red, one more like what you want. Dying it twice so close together will NOT matter if you haven't dyed your hair in so long. If it's a permanent color it will still fade a bit over time, but if you really don't like it buy a chemical lightener and then dye over it with a lighter color. If you used a permanent and you want to avoid bleach/chemicals, you're just going to have to wait it out.

i think the last picture with the brown hair looks amazing, it completely changes your face, makes your eyes pop and your skin look amazing. i would go brown, but the red is also flattering. I think the only difference is whether you want to look edgier(red) or classic(brown) so at the end of the day, go with the one that makes you happy.
