Go to a store and buy "Swimmers shampoo" Its supposed to strip the chlorine from your hair,but when i had a bad color that is what the lady at the hair salon told me to use to get it out!! It worked!

I have had red in my hair before, and it is the HARDEST color to get out! I have had to dye it several times afterwards to get the color to stay. Although, I am usually a blonde. Black may be a different situation, although I would be scared of it not "holding" and having a bluish cast to it. My best answer would be to get it professionally done. It'd be the safest way to go, and if you have dyed your hair quite a bit, they can do deep conditioning to make the color hold better, and help strengthen your hair. Hair color takes a lot out of hair! A salon can get it in much better condition!

My hair is cut this way because my hair type is similar to yours. When you wash your hair try Dove shampoo or Sunsilk the anti poof formula or the Hydra TLC formula for dry hair. It's three steps shampoo conditioner and leave in gel. It works for me.

okay sweetie, you are actually luckier than you may think. colors dont stay well in your hair they tend too slip out of red heads, but u can highlight with bleach and that cant slip, once you have bleached it, go back and color your head with the desired shade you are wanting, it will grrab on to the bleached out part and it will be beautiful. as far as texture of your hair, find some one that is good with thinning shears. go buyb you some silk therapy, its made by bio silk you can find it in salons only, its the best, you can even use it on your skin..good luck doll...

Redhed also. Redheaded daughter who has natural highlights of a deeper brown to a lighter red mixed in. Looks really nice, glad she doesn't have to highlight. Not really any suggestions here. But highlighting red hair which is stand alone outright beautiful, I believe would be just a lighter shade of it mixed in.

my hair is really,really curly and red, not 2 metion short! i hate it alot. it grows completely uneven. it is so hard 2 grow out cause i have 2 keep cutting it over and over, so wat can i do 2 it?
one thing you can do is, straighten it. if you go to the hair salon, they will do it for you. if you don't like the colour then dye it. if you go to the colour brown, with a red tint, then that will look good. you can als try short hair extentions. not reall long ones, but that might work. good luck

Then trim it.
keep doing this for a couple months, and soon it will be the desired length.
And just be glad you have red hair--it's the hottest new hair color :)

Let it grow out and go get it professionally straightened at the salon. (it last for a long time and worth it) or use a straight iron. But you have to buy a good one not a cheap one or it will not work. Go to Sally Hansen. I got one there called Helen Of Troy. I love it. I have such thick hair and it's unruly. I love the straight iron. It works great. You will have to section your hair and straighten section by section.

My hair (before) was so curly I often refered to my hair as Jimi Hendrix on Crack. Only red of course (thanks to my Irish heritage). It would grow really slow because of breakage - super dry - split ends everywhere - WHAT TO DO?!!!
I finally decided to fix the problem.
I would have it trimmed (and I mean TRIMMED - about 1/2 an inch) every 8 weeks. Once a week I would give my hair a hot oil treatment (naturally - heat up extra virgin olive oil instead of the store bought treatments... more natural, cheaper, and you can adjust the amout you want). After it finally got long enough (touching my shoulders when it was wet) I started using John Freida's anti frizz serum, and would straighten my hair with my curling iron after it would dry naturally. (I used the curling iron because it dosen't get as hot as my straightning iron).
Then I went to the salon and had highlights put in and it really made my hair look a lot healthier.
This is what worked for me - each person is different...

DON'T strip your hair by yourself!!! try hot water first. use a volumizing or clarifying shampoo. you can also try to crush a tablet of vitamin c into shampoo and leave it on for about 5 min. when you color your hair with permanent color, it chemically changes the color of you natural hair. were you to try and strip the red out yourself, you could end up with a funny-looking spotted orange color

Washing your hair in really warm water helps open p the cuticles and release some color. So does blow drying your hair.

I've heard you have a 24-48 hour window to lighten the dye via washing. I've also heard if you use Dawn dishwashing liquid that it helps. GOOD LUCK!
They have hair dye removal/fading things that you can buy at a drugstore or grocery store. It would be in the same section as the normal hair dyes are. I have used them before and they work wonderfully but they are kinda hard on your hair. Also, though they say "hair dye removal" they really only fade it it doesnt remove it compeltely. If you are only looking to fade it slightly than they have shampoos that are specialized to do just that. These are also sold at any drugstore and probably more selection at a beauty store or hair salon. Good luck!

What worked best for me was I used a shampoo that strips your hair of oils and such, it fades the color.
Its like a detox for the hair.
Or you can just wash it a lot. With regular shampoo.

Seriously, it will fade quickly. It probably doesn't look THAT bad, you're just not used to it.

Red is actually the hardest color to get rid of.
Word of advice from a 90's grunge hair dyer (I have had every color of hair and combination of colors from Hot Topics). If you try to fade red to fast it will give your hair and orange tint. Your lucky that red is the fastest hair color to fade, so if you wash your hair everyday for a about a week it should be toned down.
A strong clarifying shampoo, wash it several times and leave it on each time, then leave a treatment conditioner on too. If you don't have any clarifying shampoo try washing-up liquid a couple of times - it sounds strange but the detergents are what you need to help fade to colour, again, put a treatment on afterwards if possible.
Hopefully that should help take the edge off the glaring red, good luck.

Dont worry... A couple months ago I had my hair dyed and it was so red that every time I caught my reflection I thought I was bleeding from my scalp. But in a few days it toned down and I ended up dying it that color for 3 months!

I did this once and my stylist told me to use TIDE detergent WITHOUT Bleach additive.
It took a few days but it was all gone so try it and it will tone it down.
Don't use it more than 2 times and condition VERY WELL inbetween shampoos.

to be honest the best way is washing it with really hot water and when i say wash i mean really wash it for a good ten Min's and repeat a few times trust me this will work
You dont really want to fade it too much as it will probably go a burnt orange colour or an even worse red. If you can, use a bit of washing up liquid in your shampoo and then go and buy a FLAT brown from somewhere. This means you want something with no tone in it to try and cover as much red as possible.You will probably still have some red shining through but it will look more of a nice deep red. Try not to put a lighter shade over it as this will do nothing, you need to get a darker one. You wont have to worry about your hair going green or anything as the red would have already prepigged it. Hope this helps x
Put a dark brown dye over the whole lot.
wash it a couple of times and blast dry it with the hairdryer, that should fade it.... my highlighst always fade after a wash and blowdry :(
Keep washing! Red dyes fade fast and that is because hair is pourous and the chemicals in red dye have a hard time staying onto the hair.

I have dyed my hair every freaking color imaginable.
The thing about red is, it fades. So, take a bit of laundry detergent or dish soap (something concentrated) and wash it a few times with that. Make sure you condition it as that soap will dry your hair out. After doing that for a few days, the purple will probably be almost if not completely gone. The color you are left with might be a bit dull, but it should get rid of the purple.
Do NOT bleach it! You will look like carrot top. If you want to use bleach - go to a salon and get highlights. That will make your hair look lighter over all if the stylist knows what they are doing.

Since you JUST got it dyed, you can wash the color out (gradually) with a shampoo and conditioner that is not for "color treated hair".
If you wanted your hair really red, it possibly came out darker because you had dyed hair before you dyed it Red.
That's what happened to me, I had brown hair (dyed) and I wanted a different color brown, so when I used the dye..it came out BLACK since my hair was more absorbant.
As I kept washing it every day and night, the color faded into a nice brown color.
Try this and your red might lighten up a bit.
I highly recommend that you do not bleach it, it will probably come out orange because color does not Lift color and you just got your hair done.
If it doesn't come out as light as you want it within a couple of weeks, then just wait about a month and get it dyed again with a Lighter red than the red that you actually want, so it will come out the right color

Put some lemon juice in it and sit in the sun. It'll bring some cool highlights out if you have lighter colored hair. I dunno how it'll react with your hair dye, but if it's weird you can just dye it again.
If you've never done red before, be warned, all red hair color fades, and rather quickly compared to other colors. Red pigment does not stick like other hair colors. I would wait a couple of weeks at least, wash it every day, and see how it looks before you do anything else to it. It might fade down closer to what you wanted. But if not, then it's probably a tone thing, and I would enlist a pro to make sure you get it how you want - or at least talk to a manager at a beauty supply store if there's one near you.
If you were a natural redhead, I would have said use a blonde color. A good friend of mine who has a medium shade of natural red hair does that in the summer, and it comes out this really pretty golden kind of red.
well my sister dyed her hair bright red but she bleached her hair before and then used the die. my friend also did his hair and he used slept with hydrogen peroxide it his hair to make it lighter and more vibrant.

Like Nea, I've had my hair pretty much every color imaginable. In your case it really depends on the kind of dye you used. If you used a permanent hair color, you won't be able to fade it easily by washing it with detergent, etc. Believe me I know, in college I dyed my hair black with permanent color and I did everything imaginable to lighten it, but in the end I had to bleach streaks into it and then dye it a lighter color to even it out. I ended up cutting it short a year ago to get rid of the residual black, which was STILL in my hair at the tips where it hadn't yet grown out.
If you used a semi-permanent (if you had it dyed in a salon this is most likely the case, but if you bought a box at a store I'm suspecting it's permanent but you never know) you'll be able to fade it somewhat with the methods listed. After that, dye over it with a lighter shade of red, one more like what you want. Dying it twice so close together will NOT matter if you haven't dyed your hair in so long. If it's a permanent color it will still fade a bit over time, but if you really don't like it buy a chemical lightener and then dye over it with a lighter color. If you used a permanent and you want to avoid bleach/chemicals, you're just going to have to wait it out.

i think the last picture with the brown hair looks amazing, it completely changes your face, makes your eyes pop and your skin look amazing. i would go brown, but the red is also flattering. I think the only difference is whether you want to look edgier(red) or classic(brown) so at the end of the day, go with the one that makes you happy.

There is no such thing as hair that is naturally red. Red hair is really kind of an orangish blonde or orangish brunette. So keep that in mind.

Try going to a hair salon incase you aren't really experienced with dying your hair. Bring a picture of the kind of red hair you want. They will definitely know what to do.
TELL YOU WHAT YOU do to be safe. I go to the local beauty college, I get color for 10 bucks. BUT what you want may be a little more but its worth it to get it done while the instructor is watching. And you can request 4 the instructor to do it. SOME TIMES you can get it done 4 free but you half to get on a list. Try using a herbal product or try henna (go to a health food store to find it). If you go for chemical colouring your hair will look really dry after a while, plus of course your roots will come through in a dark line. Henna will give a reddish glow to your hair, will make it shine and is actually good for it too. Warning- if you use henna you can't use chemical colours 6 months after application.

Don't get brown highlights- on red hair that result is unattractive. I'd say get a combination of highlights and lowlights to enhance color without changing it too drastically. The shades should be somewhat close to your natural shade. Or, just dye it all! Try the temporary dyes first in case you end up not liking the color. Redheads look good with light brown or golden blonde.

Make - up stay with neutral colors and maybe rose for the cheeks. Go to a makeup counter to find your colors - don't buy from them, just try on the colors to see what best suits you. Stay with dark brown or rusty colors for the eyes - don't get too gray as it will look ashey on your skin tone. You may want to try some bronze colors to bring out the red in your hair. Clothing would be greens, and blues - usually, the cool colors work very well with auburn hair as they will not clash but compliment.

Oh my gosh. I absolutely LOVE guys with red hair. Honestly, don't get rid of it. Please do not dye your hair; the world has enough asshole brunettes and bleach-blondes. Redheads are gorgeous (but only if it's your natural color, really). Maybe do something to style it so that you like the style better, but honestly red hair is so pretty. Don't try to do anything to it. Go to your local haircutters'/barber shop and ask them to trim it or maybe find someone who'd like to suggest a new style for you.

Hello! I have blonde hair (sort of blonde, not much anymore, but used to be when I was younger) and it is wavy. I hate my hair, but I can do so much with it. I can straighten it, curl it, or dye it.
You can do a lot with your hair too. I recommend not to dye it though, because it will make your hair frizzy and after a few weeks, you'll be able to see your roots. I would tell you to cut it a little shorter, not like a buzz cut exactly, but how about this cut?

If you don't want to bother with all the trouble, just cut it short and use an anti-frizz serum to get some nice Greek-style curls. Or cut it really short with a hair cut that you can gel.Coming to school with a partial mowhawk with your hair color would make much more of a statement than black hair in a partial mowhawk. (by partial i mean a full head of hair combed up to look like a tiny mowhawk at the top.).
There are many things you can do with red hair, but if it's curly it gets frizzy, and hard to handle. You can dye it and straighten it and bother with all of that , but you'd have to do a thorough job, since I have never seen a red head highlight or straighten their curly hair ( i have seen straight haired ones do it). It always comes out looking strange when their roots start to grow in.

Just keep it natural. Get your hair cut a little more often if it grows fast and to keep it in-shape. A nice neat haircut that keeps it close to your head should do the trick.

I suggest that you try a temporary hair color first - I like Loreal Color Pulse - it's a mousse and it washes out in 8 to 10 shampoos, so even if you don't like it, it's gone. When you find a color that you love, then purchase a similar shade in a permanent dye.

I've gone there, and yes it was a very beautiful color, it was the same color as you described, but it is a very hard color to get rid off, you would either haft to have the color stripped, which is very damaging, and i do not recommend it, or you would haft to let it fade out, which could take months, but its you choice Hun, just make the right one.

but beware - bleaching is very damaging to your roots, healthy hair growth and might leave your hair frizzy and dry.

Well, if you want to do it at home then it would be best to bleach it and take some of the dark color out and then dye it red. For the fact that you didn't know this though tells me that you should go to a salon otherwise you will mess up your hair. I've been coloring my hair for over 10 years and I have bleached my hair many times and I have personal experience on how things work. If you do not know how to bleach, your hair is going to look a mess. Go to a salon.
Go to a hairdresser, get the reddish tint removed and then have red, blond and brown highlights. It might cost more than doing it yourself but at least you will be able to go out in public
i have jet black hair and i always use the loreal feria products to get my hair red.....and then to give it that extra punch, i use the Sebastian red Cellophane (you should be able to find this in any beauty supply store) in my hair. Hope this helps.

I am a natural red head and it is nearly impossible to pull off fake red hair. Red heads have a certain skin pigment that helps them pull off the color.
You can try to go to a professional, but they will give you more of an auburn color than "Ginger" red.

Why do you want your hair, to be red? Ok, here's what I suggest you do (regardless of the dye color): Buy a different brand of hair dye,(Walmart has at least 3 brands.) clean your hair and have a friend dye it for you, while you sit in the tub, or something. See how it turns out. But it's important to always read the directions on the box. Some of them say to scrub the dye in, in the shower.
This is a little harsh but the best way to change from a dark to a light hair color is by first stripping or bleaching your hair and then dying it the color you actually want. They have home bleaching kits but you have to work very fast to avoid uneven bleaching or worse, hair loss! My suggestion, if you want to steer clear of embarrassing mishaps you might want to get it done by a professional! Good luck!!!

well the only way basically to keep your hair straight is to straighten it with a ceramic iron or get it chemically straightened but it tends to be really expensive!!! i have very thick hair so i use a ceramic revlon iron $25.00 i put half of my hair up and the other half i striaghten and leave it down becuase my hair is soo thick the whole thing won't straightne out nicely

Well I know you said you didnt want a flat iron, but I have one called the CHI my moms friend uses it in her salon, I have thin wavy hair, and it doesent do any damage at all. Just make sure your hair isnt wet. This costs roughly $50.

I think the color is very pretty, I would caution you that red is a very hard color to get out. I went from blonde to red a year ago and it took 6 months and several colors to get the red to fade. If you do choose to change it I'd recommend going to a salon as that is a pretty drastic change.

Only use a pre-lightner if you have any type of depositing hair color on the hair, or if your hair is a darker red. Haircolor can only lift the natural color so far, and you don't want to end up with orange color. Haircolor does NOT lift haircolor. Do not overlap onto your previous blonde highlights, as that will weaken the hair in those areas and make it more likely to break off. Your best bet would be to go to a salon and have a professional handle this type of process. If you don't apply properly all over the head you will end up with a horrible mess, and it will cost you a lot more to get a corrective haircolor done than it would have cost you to have it done right the first time. That and you won't risk the damage that the drugstore products can cause. If you don't have a stylist, ask around. Referrals are the best.
Don't do it! A friend of mine with gorgeous red hair diied her hair many years ago and it never recovered. She has been a strawberry blonde ever since. (Perhaps that's what you want?)

I think red hair is the most beautiful hair color. We have a lot of redheads %26amp; blondes in my family. I prayed for a redheaded little girl. I got a gorgeous brunette %26amp; a beautiful blonde. Red hair is the rarest hair color on the face of this earth, I think it's a precious gift from God. If you must color your hair do it in a shade of red that you really love rather than blonde. There's too many bleach blondes already. The world doesn't need another.
Don't do it, stick with the highlights. You might decide you don't like it all blonde and then you'll be stuck with it till it grows out, or damage it further dying back.

Hair is a component of physical attraction, but you need to remember that it's not the only one. You should look for guys that like you for who you are, overall, and not just for your hair color.

Red is an amazing color. One of my bestfriends has red hair. Please, please never fully color your hair ! Do you know how many people would kill for red hair ? Red is the HARDEST color to put into your hair and it never stays in. I colored mine red about a month ago and it's already faded, and I used a permanent coloring treatment. When you get older I swear you will get so so sooooo many people commenting on how they love your hair. If you really really want a slight change, get the Sunstreak spray in highlighter at like Walmart and just put in a few highlights. I swear on my life, your hair will get you places.

peachy pinky orange sort of colours look good on red heads but aquas, blue (light more than dark), greens and maybe even gold if u really want to stand out look really good

I LOVE MY RED HAIR! it gives me so many different things i can do with my make-up. You should try a medium green, purple, blue, and/or a pretty tealish color! i also do the "smoky eye" thing sometimes. it looks awesome and contrasts nicely with your hair!
stick to light colors ad make sure you don't put too much on, put on no mascara and use a eyelash curler
well first we need to know what skin tone you are for a certain one but 3 colors are good with red, black, a very dark blue and purple and if you had light skin i would go purple, medium skin would go very dark blue and tanned skin would go black, anyway i think you would look pretty in each color

If I were you, I wouldn't dye your hair fully, put light blonde highlights through it so the hair is not a solid color. awww, I think that if you where born with red hair then you are lucky. Don't dye it because of some stupid boys making fun of you. Surely they make un of your hair because they really do like it but don't want to admit it. They are immature!
Red hair is awesome! I've always wanted red hair. If people tease you about it, just know that they're being jerky and are just jealous. They deny it, but seriously, that's what's going on inside their heads. Truly, guys like all hair types, unless they're really picky. But remember, no matter how you look (though if you look great, which I'm sure you do, it builds confidence), it's really inside that matters.
