How do you keep red hair dye in?

I got my hair done at the salon %26amp; they did a great job,but I had to keep going back because its washing out in the shower %26amp; they told me to wash my hair,so they said that has nothing to do with it,its just the fact that red is the hardest to keep in your hair..so is there anyway I could make it stay longer?

My salonist always told me to wash my hair with cold water to help keep the color in. What I do is wash my hair first with cold water and then take the rest of my shower with warm water. I like to leave the shower feeling warm

You need to get permanent dye put it not washable outable one.

All you can do is use a red color depositing shampoo/conditioner and color safe shampoos. Redken Color Extend system is great.

But your stylist is right on - red pigment molecules are very large and they won't stay in your hair (ever heard of someone whose color just slides out of their hair? This is what red does) for very long. Use cool water to rinse your hair and that closes the cuticle of the hair shaft - that'll help a LITTLE bit, but there isn't much you can do.

Switch to Redken dyes if you haven't (DoubleFusion Reds by Redken is AMAZING and long lasting - I only had to touch up my color every 6 weeks with my root touchups).

Most all dyes wash out eventually and fade. I see no way around that. You just have to color it again every so often as any one without natural hair color.

is this a permenat dye job or one that gradually goes back to regular shade.

I get Red mixed in with the dye that gradually goes back to regular shade and the red washes out - even on the towels

It took a week or so before this stopped - the color itself did not change
