I want red hair!?

I have naturally very dark brown hair, almost black, but I really want to have it bright red (don't laugh, but something like Ginger Spice's used to be). I tried to dye it myself but it just gave it a reddish tint. What can I do? Thanks xxxxxx

but beware - bleaching is very damaging to your roots, healthy hair growth and might leave your hair frizzy and dry.

you should definitely have it done by a professional, or else it could go some completely wacky and funky color.

Well, if you want to do it at home then it would be best to bleach it and take some of the dark color out and then dye it red. For the fact that you didn't know this though tells me that you should go to a salon otherwise you will mess up your hair. I've been coloring my hair for over 10 years and I have bleached my hair many times and I have personal experience on how things work. If you do not know how to bleach, your hair is going to look a mess. Go to a salon.

Go to a hairdresser, get the reddish tint removed and then have red, blond and brown highlights. It might cost more than doing it yourself but at least you will be able to go out in public

i have jet black hair and i always use the loreal feria products to get my hair red.....and then to give it that extra punch, i use the Sebastian red Cellophane (you should be able to find this in any beauty supply store) in my hair. Hope this helps.

I am a natural red head and it is nearly impossible to pull off fake red hair. Red heads have a certain skin pigment that helps them pull off the color.

You can try to go to a professional, but they will give you more of an auburn color than "Ginger" red.

Why do you want your hair, to be red? Ok, here's what I suggest you do (regardless of the dye color): Buy a different brand of hair dye,(Walmart has at least 3 brands.) clean your hair and have a friend dye it for you, while you sit in the tub, or something. See how it turns out. But it's important to always read the directions on the box. Some of them say to scrub the dye in, in the shower.

This is a little harsh but the best way to change from a dark to a light hair color is by first stripping or bleaching your hair and then dying it the color you actually want. They have home bleaching kits but you have to work very fast to avoid uneven bleaching or worse, hair loss! My suggestion, if you want to steer clear of embarrassing mishaps you might want to get it done by a professional! Good luck!!!
